OUR LEADERS

DENISE CHENEVERT

CONNECTIONS LEADER

I was incredibly blessed to have been born into a Christian family with parents and grandparents who prayed for me and shared the good news about Jesus Christ from God’s Word. As a result, I accepted Jesus as my personal savior at a very young age and made a public demonstration of my faith through baptism. As a teen, I was very active in our church (Elmbrook Church in Brookfield), teaching Sunday School and VBS, participating in Youth Group and serving on a musical local outreach team.

My faith continued to grow through my “career years” as my husband, Paul Gryzwa, and I attended Elmbrook, under the teaching of Stuart Briscoe. We participated in small group Bible studies and serving the church. When I retired from the technology industry in 2015 (IBM, among others), we headed up to Door County, and immediately got “plugged in” to the SBCC church family.

I began serving on the Missions Team as well as the Greeter Team and helped support special church events such as the Outdoor Baptism Service and Women’s Christmas Tea. I also led several women’s Bible studies and helped co-lead the SBCC Women’s Ministry.

In my current role as Connections Team Lead, I am responsible for Sunday morning greeting/coffee service, helping new folks get connected in our church and supporting people in their path to membership. I love working with our team to create a warm, welcoming environment on Sunday mornings that makes people feel “at home” in our church.

Outside of Sunday mornings, I participate in a weekly Bible study group with Paul and co-lead a multi-church women’s Bible study in Sturgeon Bay. It recharges my “spiritual battery” to dig into the wisdom and truth of God’s Word with other believers and experience the Holy Spirit using it to transform us more and more each day into the likeness of Jesus. If you aren’t taking advantage of this awesome opportunity to grow your faith and get connected with community here, you’re missing out!

We have one son, Sam Gryzwa, who works for CRU in NYC with his amazing wife Meghan. We have two red-headed grandsons, Gabriel and Fletcher, who have stolen our hearts.

I am so grateful to God for His perfect plan of salvation and the clear instructions in His Word on how we are to live together as a family of faith. What a privilege to serve Him in our church and to see how He works out His purposes through His faithful followers!

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” --Romans 15:5-7
